When local singing legend Hemi Pere is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he tasks his son Hayden with finding an estranged family member (“Honk”) so they can make peace before time runs out.

Years earlier, Honk was kicked out of home after a bust up with Hemi — when a bounty of stolen items were found stashed in his bedroom sleep-out.

Out on the road, Hayden must decipher clues and red herrings within the criminal underbelly to solve the mystery of Honk’s whereabouts. Complicating matters, Hayden discovers that Honk’s enemy is also on the trail, eager to exact revenge on Honk for a past betrayal — which places Hayden directly in harm’s way.

As Hayden navigates these obstacles, a dark secret is uncovered — that Hayden was actually the one responsible for the theft which caused the rift between Hemi and Honk.

Facing his mortality, Hemi regrets not having passed on enough cultural knowledge for Hayden to lead his whānau into the future — but optimistic that his son has the inherent qualities which will empower him to find the answers when the time calls.

To fulfil his father’s dying wish, Hayden must confront his personal shame and risk his own safety in order to make things right.
